History

In July 1877, the Hallett Methodist Church opened in a temporary wood and iron chapel.

The current church was built in 1880 and the Hallett Circuit, comprised of the Hallett, Mt Bryan and Mt Bryan East churches, was formed in 1855.

In 1951, the Hallett & Terowie Circuits combined. The new circuit was made up of the Methodist Churches of Hallett, Terowie, Ketchowla, Whyte Yarcowie and Mt Bryan.

In 1971 the Hallett Terowie Circuit was disbanded. Willalo and Mt Bryan became part of the Burra Circuit and Terowie became part of the Peterborough-Yongala Circuit. The Hallett & Whyte Yarcowie Methodist churches joined the new Jamestown United Parish.

WHYTE YARCOWIE UNITING CHURCH

History

The Yarcowie Methodist Church was built in 1877, with its official opening on May 3rd of that year. In 1929, the township’s name was changed to Whyte Yarcowie to distinguish it from other places with similar names.

It was part of the Kooringa (Burra) Circuit until 1876, followed by the Yarcowie Circuit (comprising Ulooloo, Canowie, Terowie, Yarcowie and Munjibbie) from 1877-1884.  The Yarcowie Circuit was renamed to Terowie in 1885 when the growth of Terowie exceeded that of Yarcowie. In 1951, Whyte Yarcowie became part of the Hallett Circuit until 1971 when the Hallett Circuit became part of the Jamestown United Parish.

History

The Clements Gap Soldiers Memorial Methodist Church was erected in memory of local people who served in World War I. The foundation stone was laid on 12th November 1925 by Mrs G M Wilson, with the official opening on 11th March 1926.

In 1996, the church became part of the Cluster of Congregations with Lay Ministry Teams in the Presbytery of Frome. It was supported in turn by Cluster Ministers Rev Brian Robins and Rev Rob Stoner, and by Rev John Cramer (Ministry Development Facilitator for Presbytery of Frome in 2002).

In 2006, the Clements Gap Uniting Church joined the Goyder Ministry Area with Rev Ted White as the Area Minister at that time.

The Church is the only remaining building at Clements Gap.

History

The Carrieton church first opened as a Bible Christian Church on 7 May 1882 with Rev GH Paynter from Quorn officiating. It became a Methodist Church after Union of the Wesley and Bible Christian Churches in 1900, and in 1951 it was added to the Hawker Circuit.

In the early 1950’s, new stained glass windows were installed and one of the building’s rooms was demolished. The church was rededicated and reopened on 19 June 1955. A Sunday School room was added in 1960.

The church became a Uniting Church in 1977.
